1971
Company History

45 years of stockmarket success!!  Securities Research Company and Market Analysis are 45 years old in March 2026!

Our founder, James Cornell (now living overseas), began investing his own money in the stockmarket in 1971 (at age 12 and starting with his entire net worth of just $500).
While a student at Auckland University from 1977-1980 he spent much of his time independently studying all forms of investment.
Despite the "interesting" investment environment during the 1970's - two oil price shocks, hyper-inflation, recession and stockmarket crashes - James concluded that the stockmarket offered investors the best opportunities to build wealth.

1986

In 1981, Securities Research was established to continue his research and to provide the independent research and unbiased advice that James needed to manage his own stockmarket investments.

In March 1981 the "Market Analysis" newsletter was published to share that work with other private investors. 
International investments were covered from March 1985 (when NZ's foreign exchange controls were removed and the currency floated), with coverage expanded and transferred to "International Investor" in January 1996. 

1995

Australian shares have been covered in "Market Analysis" only since February 1994 - but have since become our primary focus for investment. The New Zealand stockmarket never really recovered from the 1987 crash. The number of companies listed today is still less than half the number in the mid-1980's.
There are 14 times as many companies listed on the ASX . . . offering a much greater range of opportunties to find attractive, under-valued investment opportunities! 

Our share selection database was established in 1981 (for our own internal use) and eventually made available to other investors who want to do their own research via the Internet from January 2003 with the Online Share Selection service.

2005

In late 2006, James - now an independently wealthy investor - "retired" to Malaysia for the tropical climate and investor-friendly tax system!

Our focus is solely on investment research, managing and growing our own investment portfolios.

2016		 Extremely Successful Investment Track Record

Securities Research has an extremely impressive track record of successful investment on the NZ and Australian stockmarkets and internationally.
We aim to analyse the stockmarket in an intelligent and scientific manner - consistently applying sound investment principles and practice in the search for superior long term investment returns. We generally avoid the popular, over-valued shares and instead search for out-of-favour, under-valued shares or emerging growth companies that have not yet been "discovered" by stockbrokers and institutional investors.

We did not start this business to SELL newsletter subscriptions. We are investors, so we wanted to BUY a newsletter subscription offering independent research and unbiased advice. No-one offered that.
So we started this business to provide the investment information and recommendations that we needed to manage and grow our own investment portfolios.

We invest our own money in every share or fund that we recommend in "Market Analysis" and "International Investor".
Having followed all of his own investment advice, James Cornell is now an independently wealthy investor living offshore.
